Grillo Announces Caribbean EEW Commitment at Clinton Global Initiative

At the 2021 Clinton Global Initiative meeting, President Bill Clinton announced Grillo's commitment to strengthen earthquake early warning capabilities across Puerto Rico and the broader Caribbean region.

The Commitment

Grillo is committing to deploy sensor technology to Puerto Rico to strengthen seismic monitoring on the island and build the foundation for an earthquake early warning system throughout the Caribbean region.

Why It Matters

The Caribbean is one of the most seismically active regions in the world, yet it lacks comprehensive earthquake early warning infrastructure. Major earthquakes in Haiti (2010, 2021) and Puerto Rico (2020) demonstrated the devastating impact that earthquakes can have on vulnerable communities.

Building Resilience

This initiative represents a significant step toward building earthquake resilience across the Caribbean. By combining Grillo's sensor technology with local expertise and existing seismic networks, we can create an integrated early warning system that protects millions of people.

"To improve earthquake preparedness and response in the region, Grillo is committing to deploy their sensor technology to Puerto Rico, to strengthen seismic monitoring on the island." — President Bill Clinton

Next Steps

Deployment is already underway, with sensors being installed across Puerto Rico in partnership with the Puerto Rico Seismic Network. The system will expand to include additional Caribbean islands as the network grows.
